Cross-linked research

At the University of Applied Sciences Jena 33 different courses of study are offered in the fields of engineering, business economics and social sciences. In addition, it maintains close cooperations with more than 100 research and educational institutions as well as numerous commercial enterprises. The outstanding network of the University of Applied Sciences Jena has become well known beyond the borders of Thuringia by now, and it is an attraction for new partners as well.

The orientation of the University of Applied Sciences Jena towards the more and more complex requirements of the economy is particularly interesting for these partners. The researchers and developers encounter these requirements not only with textbook knowledge, but with experiments, tests, a lot of conversations combined with a professional knowledge management and target-oriented cooperation. The performances are interdisciplinarily bundled in competence centres and institutes.

The Competence Circle Microsystems Technology in Life Sciences is one example of that. It was founded at the University of Applied Sciences Jena in the fall of 2006 to bundle the experience of the work groups involved and to use the proximity of the researching disciplines. The previous research activities – often achieved in cooperation with or on behalf of enterprises – focus on micromotorics, microactorics, microsensorics, microsensoric analytics, the software development for microsystems processes and finally biomicrosystems.

The following areas are additionally subject to research at the University of Applied Sciences Jena:

•    Life sciences
•    Precision mechanics – optics
•    Information processing – simulation
•    Automation engineering – mechatronics
•    Materials and manufacturing technology
•    Social sciences
•    Starting up and managing enterprises
