Coming to Jena pays off because …
1. … good ideas have better chances here.
The people of Jena are experienced in transforming the latest research results into marketable products. Entrepreneurial spirit not only has tradition but is a way of life. Companies like ZEISS, JENOPTIK, JENAPHARM or SCHOTT started out small here and came up big. We would love to supply the infrastructure and the proper contacts for new business ideas for you.
--> Business
2. … in Jena there are more Global Players than you would think.
From Jena to Australia? No problem. Die development divisions are again and again entrusted with foreign top-class orders. Someone with itchy feet for traveling can easily extend their international contacts in Jena. After all, Jena companies work up 45 percent of their turnovers abroad. For the employees that means the chance to cooperate with the big names of the industry.

3. …here is where you carve out your career.
According to a Prognos study on behalf of the Handelsblatt magazine Jena is the German runner-up for career opportunities. The percentage of skilled and executive personnel is particularly high. In no other region the “leaders and rulers” – skilled executives who seize and implement ideas – take up a higher percentage in the number of employees.
--> Career
4. … here is where the skilled workers are.
Companies need the right employees. Each year, more than 2.000 students graduate at the University and the University of Applied Sciences, many of them engineers and natural scientists. These are supplemented by the graduates of the three trade schools of Jena and as well other young specialized personnel from other regions of Thuringia moving to the city by the Saale river.
5. … the networks function well in Jena.
Sometimes having just around 100.000 inhabitants has its benefits. Many of the companies are stretched out within walking distance. The big networks such as OptoNet, medways and others take advantage of that. Being highly professional contact persons they are there to support business and science projects.

6. … researching runs in our blood.
That’s why Jena hosts not only two Universities, but also a Fraunhofer institute, various institutes of the Max Planck Society as well as additional prestigious research establishments. They are nationally and internationally renowned for their high quality achievements. That is one of the reasons the “Stifterverband” (founders’ association) of German Science awarded Jena the title German “science city” of 2008.
--> Science
7. … many roads lead to us.
Jena is situated directly roadside to the motorway A4 Autobahn, just a couple of kilometers off the Autobahn A9 motorway junction „Hermsdorfer Kreuz”. The city hosts a ICE train connection and as well a airfield for business travelers. Arriving in Jena via the A4 Autobahn, one should not be put off by the sight of the many blocks of flats: Those are the best rented block of flats of Germany, where verifiably start ups where founded that rose to become global players later on. Of course our historic city centre is suited for that as well.
--> Infrastructure
8. … thinking in entrepreneurial dimensions is natural here.
The Jena people approach business matters output-driven and pragmatically. That’s why JenaBusiness focuses on entrepreneurs with all their concerns. A competent team gives out support regarding all relevant questions and functions as a mediator between business, science and administration.
--> Service
9. … Jena is recommended by families.
Get a job and a spot in a daycare centre as well? Works out in our city. Jena currently there are 56 day care centres, many flexible offers and a legal entitlement to child care after the first year of age. There are many different schools. Thuringia scores well in comparative school rankings. Additionally, in the “Jena alliance for family” about 50 companies as well as institutions of science, education and administration have teamed up to further promote Jena as a family-friendly location.
--> Family Career
10. … Jena is just wonderful.
With all due respect to the scientific and economical focus: a city has to be worth living in too. That’s why we recommend a trip to the tower “Fuchsturm” or the lookout platform of the JenTower, a visit to the local “Wagnergasse” or the museum “Romantikerhaus”. You’ll see: your heart will light up in our traditional historic cultural landscape. You wouldn’t be the first to stay.
