Initiator of this campaign is the Society OptoNet with its partner enterprises. Recognized trades and study subjects in the field of optics are introduced here. The campaign distinguishes itself through its consequent orientation regarding pupils’ and students’ experiences and language. Instead of technological specialists’ vocabulary one finds are clear statements: What does a mechanical engineer or a physics laboratory assistant do? Why is this interesting? Where can you get a job with that later on? The corresponding website is getting praised by students time and again.
Undertaking Business Education
Early on, specific projects are to inform about professional perspectives and career opportunities in the region and to attract the young generation for specialized education. Initiators are different schools, trade schools and regional companies. The project also co-organizes information events for pupils and students such as the “market of opportunities” and the “Day of education in mechanical engineering”.
The precision-optical industry and the glas industry in the region need rookies. In the Jena education centre interested teenagers find various education and qualification opportunities. Shareholders of this institution are the Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH, the SCHOTT JENAer GLAS GmbH and the JENOPTIK AG. Starting in the 2009/2010 term, 269 apprentices of these companies will attend the education centre.
The national Girls‘ Day allows girls to see behind the curtain of trades which are usually rarely considered by girls. Because companies seek personnel especially in technological fields, girls are offered good prospects. In 2009, the following Jena companies took part in Girls’ Day (among others): car dealership Fischer, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Communal Housing Facility, Leibniz-Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology, Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, microfluidic ChipShop and TowerByte eG.
Skilled personnel-atlas of the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce Thuringia)
The atlas informs pupils about companies that located in and Jena and shows the occupation opportunities within those companies and institutions. The Chamber of Industry and Commerce provides the atlas to schools as a class set of books.
„Academic Partners treaty“
The University and the University of Applied Sciences keep signing treaties with Jena companies facilitating cooperation. Students receive an insight look in current technologies and can socialize with business representatives.
The task force School Business hosts the information market for occupational orientation each year (the last one in March 2009), supports the „Initiative Undertaking Business Education” with an open day of the Jena companies (the next one will take place in November 2009), organises the “technology Olympics Jena/SHK in October 2009 and also arranges further education programmes for teachers of trade schools in the region. All year long, the task force coordinates projects for occupational orientation.
The „”Technikum“ is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to promote studies and trades in the so called “MINT”-sector (MINT stands for the German equivalents of mathematics, computer sciences, natural and engineering sciences and technology). Through several months of internships in companies or non-university research institutes, young people with higher education entrance qualification get to know every-day-company-life. In cooperation with regional universities the “Technikum” offers an intense orientation on study subjects and occupation – with valuable experiences for a successful way to a degree and a career later on.
The national pact between politics, business, science and media is aimed to change the picture of the so called MINT sector (MINT stands for the German equivalents of mathematics, computer sciences, natural and engineering sciences and technology) so that young women will become enthused by natural scientific and technological study subjects and young graduates will decide on a career in the economy. The pact is part of the qualification initiative of the Federal Government “Advancement through education.”
