Infrastructure

The direct route to Jena

In physics, power is defined as the quotient of work done (or invested energy) and the time required therefore. For anyone working or living in Jena, that means more power. Because of its central location and the excellent transport connections, everyone who is in transit saves time. Of course, that doesn't just apply to public transportation but also to freight traffic.

Whether near or far, whether by car, ICE, or tram: Jena is a mobile city. (Photo: JeNah)

Car
The A4 (Dresden to Frankfurt am Main), the most important East to West tangent, runs directly by Jena. There are two junctions:  Jena-Göschwitz and Jena Center. In a distance of only a few kilometers, it crosses the A9 (Berlin to Munich) at the Hermsdorfer Kreuz. The federal highways B7 and B88 also run through Jena. Inside the city there are numerous parking possibilities.

Airplane
Thanks to the airfield Schöngleina, Jena is connected to air traffic. This airfield might be used by business travelers or aviation hobbyists. The 1,200 meter long runway is suitable for airplanes up to 5,7 tons. The closest major airport is located 45 kilometers away in Erfurt. Approximately 90 kilometers away, you will find the biggest airport of Central Germany: Leipzig/Halle. Another option is the airport Altenburg-Nobitz in about 75 kilometers. Anyone who enjoys decelerated methods of travel will be delighted by Jena's Balloon Sport Association.
