Renowned research and science
The scientists of the Medical Faculty conduct both biomedical basic research as well as patient-oriented clinical research. Based on these research areas, five top priorities have arisen which are promoted by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research of the faculty or supported by public development programs and industrial incentives:
- Clinical-oriented neurosciences
- Inflammation and autoimmunity
- Clinical-experimental oncology
- Hemostaseology/cardiovascular medicine
- Molecular biomedicine
In addition, the following priorities are in an initial state:
- Medical biophotonics
- Health services research
In 2008 alone about 700 articles written by the researchers of the medical centre were issued by internationally renowned journals.
A particular concern is the advancement of junior researchers. The University of Jena and the Medical Faculty have established a professional network for postgraduate education. Alone the number of 800 postgraduates speaks for the success of this strategy.
